MADISON – During six years in sports, Nathan Ogletree best remembers a challenge he faced in flag football this summer.
“Our assistant coach, who called plays, couldn’t make the game, so I got to handle the play calling,” Nathan said. “It was a tough start, but we finally got the lead when we capped off an amazing drive that resulted in a 14-8 lead. We went on to win 33-8.”
Until ‘aging out,’ Nathan played quarterback and cornerback for Upward Football. He has found a flag football team on Redstone Arsenal and will play next spring. “My parents prefer that I play flag football for now. I’m OK with that, but I might play tackle ball later on,” he said.
Nathan likes football’s “stop-and-go pace and (any) team sports. I like the strategy involved with creating and implementing plays.”
Nathan is an eighth-grader in Excalibur Christian home school and attends a weekly co-op. He played defender on Excalibur’s soccer team.
Nathan’s parents are Travis and Shawnda Ogletree. Travis is self-employed with Trust Window Cleaning. Shawnda home-schools Nathan and his three sisters: sophomore Rayma, sixth-grader Karis and first-grader Hadassah.
Nathan and his dad are natives of Madison. “My mom was from Georgia. They lived there when they first got married so she could finish college but moved back here shortly before I was born,” Nathan said.
