MADISON – Madison City Schools will host a nationally-renowned workshop on Nov. 9 that will offer strategies for students, their parents and their teachers to deal successfully with pressures of the 21st century.
“The Well-Balanced Student” workshop, which will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m., will be held in James Clemens High School Auditorium.
This free program will provide strategies that can create a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for students, Cindy V. Davis said. Davis works as District At-Risk Counselor for Madison City Schools.
The workshop is designed for all parents. The workshop leader will be Margaret Dunlap. Dunlap is Director of Challenge Success, a research-based organization partnered with Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education.
The workshop’s program will examine several topics:
* Tensions that can occur between students, parents and educators about issues such as homework, grades and the culture of competition.
* Ways in which students today are coping — or not coping — with the academic pressure that they face.
* Ways to reduce academic stress without sacrificing achievement or engagement in school.
* Ways to steer students through school in today’s high-pressure, fast-paced culture without denying them the time and energy they need to effectively tackle the demands of growing up.
* Strategies for parents to increase resilience, creativity and well-being for their child in the classroom environment.
For more information, call 256-464-8370, email cvdavis@madisoncity.k12.al.us or visit madisoncity.k12.al.us and click the workshop link the “District News” section.
