Tuggle deployed to Afghanistan, Kuwait and Central America
MADISON – Major Richard E. Tuggle has served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army National Guard and is currently active in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He was commissioned in 1997 and completed Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Saint Norbert College. Tuggle has served at Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; Fort Gillem, Ga.; Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.; Fort Dix, N.J.; and in Arlington, Va., Chattanooga, Tenn. and Huntsville.
“I’ve deployed to Central America for Joint Task Force Aguilla, providing Humanitarian Assistance after Hurricane Mitch,” Tuggle said. He also deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Tuggle completed a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics, minoring in computer science, at Saint Norbert College. He met his bride-to-be Anne there, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry.
“After being a Quality Control Chemist with DSM Chemicals, Anne passed on Purdue’s graduate school offer to raise our three children — Allison, Jeffrey and Marissa,” Tuggle said.
Major Tuggle completed a master’s degree in computer engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. “I’m all but dissertation (ABD) on a doctorate,” he said. Currently, he works as Senior Technical Fellow with PeopleTec, Inc.
The Tuggles moved to Madison in 2004 for his job with Raytheon.
“As the local Signal Detachment Commander for 3-108th (SC) Battalion, I’m looking for 25 series NCOs who would like to instruct at Army Signal School,” Tuggle said.
In volunteering, Tuggle, himself an Eagle Scout, has worked 20-plus years with Boy Scouts of America. He now is support volunteer in Girl Scouts, Assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts and Associate Advisor in Venturing.
He holds membership with National Catholic Committee on Scouting, National Defense Industrial Association, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Tuggle served as Past Pastoral Council Chair for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Currently a Deacon Candidate, he is assisting in formation of Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church in Madison.
He completed the Ironman distance race at Ironman Louisville, three half-distance races and several Olympic and Sprint races. “My motto is, ‘I get
twice the return on my investment as I play twice as long on the course.'”
Tuggle also participated with a charity team for Scott Rigsby Foundation to help wounded and highly deployed soldiers.
