MADISON – For the fourth consecutive year, the 2016 Peanut Butter and Jelly Bowl will score for Inside-Out Ministries as the Bob Jones Patriots and James Clemens Jets football teams battle for intra-city bragging rights.

“Join in and share your PB&J with Inside-Out Ministries as you support Madison’s high school football teams,” Bob Jones Assistant Principal Amy Thaxton said. “The game is set for September 2 at 7 p.m. and, as always, will be a nail-biter.”

“Add to the fun and share some much needed food with our community,” Thaxton said.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m., two trucks will be parked at Madison City Schools Stadium for people to take their donations — peanut butter for Bob Jones or jelly for James Clemens — or donate both. “To add a little challenge, peanut butter donations will score seven points and jelly will score three points,” Thaxton said.

Cheerleaders started the PB&J Bowl when Bob Jones’ population divided with the opening of James Clemens High School. “From the beginning, we all realized this rivalry was going to be huge,” Bob Jones cheerleader coach Zoe Williams said in a previous interview. “We wanted to direct attention of students to a cause that would give back to the community and provide for the greater good.”

“Shelves at Inside-Out are low on stock. We need peanut butter and jelly for children and adults who need our help,” Thaxton said in “Patriot Pages.” “The reason peanut butter and jelly is so great is because a six-year-old could make it, instead of them trying to make something on the stove, which isn’t safe.”

Inside-Out also is accepting donations now at their facility at 103 Gin Oaks Court in downtown Madison. The donation will count for the school team that you specify. Inside-Out welcomes all food donations year-round, including peanut butter and jelly, but donations after Sept 2 won’t affect the contest totals.
