Crowder’s ‘Evin’ delves in urban fantasy

MADISON – Anna Smith, who uses the pen name A.S. Crowder, has written “Evin,” a supernatural adventure story.

“Evin” follows a young woman, Eva, as she discovers her connection to the Forest of Evin, a hub of magic creatures and energy that connects all worlds. “The forest is being torn apart by an outside force. She has to find the two other people with her same connection to reverse destruction,” Crowder said.

Crowder’s love of reading urban fantasy and supernatural adventure motivated her writing. “I get really tired of the love triangle device that tends to get used in those types of stories,” she said. “I wanted to write something that had the elements I loved without the tropes that frustrated me.”

“Evin” delivers two main messages. First, “we are generally capable of more than we think, especially if we have a strong support system,” Crowder said.

“The second is that even people who seem to know exactly what they’re doing and what they’re about can be blindsided and make mistakes. While all mistakes can’t be undone, most can be coped with,” she said.

Crowder hopes “Evin” conveys a sense of adventure and excitement. “The characters are facing incredibly high stakes; if I’ve done my job right, there should be quite a few edge-of-your-seat moments.”

Pro Se Press soon will release Crowder’s short story, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” in their Single Shots line. Currently, she is editing her next book.

What is her secret to your success as an author? “Self-motivation. Plenty of people can write; the ones that have success are the ones that sit down and do the work,” Crowder said.

Crowder works as an adjunct professor of sociology at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Alabama A&M University.

A Bob Jones High School alumna, Crowder earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in sociology at Mississippi State University. She and husband Cam Crowder live in Huntsville; he works with Home Depot’s merchandizing execution team.

“Evin” is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Foundationsbooks.com/library. For more information, visit authorascrowder.blogspot.com or Facebook/AuthorASCrowder.
