Norman enters race for City Council, District 6
MADISON – Kathryn ‘Kat’ Norman has entered the race to serve District 6 on Madison City Council.
“I decided to run because I’m unhappy with how things are handled within the city,” Norman said. “I do not like the bickering between the mayor and council. I do not like the dismissive attitude of the council towards our citizens.”
Because Norman is retired, she pledges to be a full-time council person. “I have all the time available to do this job for my district and city. I will have an open door policy and have respect for all the citizens who live in Madison.”
Norman’s “Open Door Policy” will apply also to “our 300-plus city employees to come and openly talk and get the respect and voice they deserve. I promise to actually listen and ‘hear’ what you have to say and … be fair and always do the right thing.”
“The council and mayor should work as a team for the betterment of Madison. The tactics of playing the ‘blame game,’ the practice of undermining, the frequent finger-pointing, the political moves and strategies to discredit and other unsavory practices must stop,” Norman said.
Norman believes that the council needs “a wants-versus-needs list” and work on the “needs list” as a top priority.
“It’s critical that the city find a way to help Madison Animal Control have a better shelter and a no-kill shelter for our pets,” Norman said.
Her husband Lynn works as an engineer on Redstone Arsenal. The Normans have three adult children: David of Fayetteville, Tenn.; Jessica Schneider of Smyrna, Tenn. and Jennifer of Huntsville. Their granddaughter Kendal attends Hazel Green Elementary School.
Growing up on Wallwood Farms, Kathryn Norman has lived in Madison County for 47 years. The Normans have lived in Madison for 15 years. “We moved to Madison for a bigger home and great schools for our children. I have volunteered with many sports groups,” she said.
When working at Fox Army Hospital, Norman started breast cancer awareness symposiums. She is a former member and president of Cosmopolitan Club in Huntsville.
