Donate to Clothing For Confidence’s shopping day
MADISON – For the fourth year, Madison Rolling and volunteers with “Clothing For Confidence” intend for all children to have a new outfit to wear on the first day of school.
In 2013, Rolling founded Clothing for Confidence so any student from kindergartner to high school senior will have new clothes when the school bell rings.
“When I was growing up, my mother was always an advocate of giving me a new outfit to wear the first day of school,” Rolling said. “She believed and taught me that when we feel good in what we wear, we also feel good about ourselves.”
The clothing drive started in early June and will continue to July 22. Anyone can donate new and barely used clothes, including students’ shirts, pants, dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories.
Drop-off locations in Madison are Dublin Park, Inside-Out Ministries, Madison City Hall, Madison Public Library and Madison Chamber of Commerce inside Hogan Family YMCA.
The ‘Shopping Day’ event for those in need will be July 30 at Inside-Out Ministries, 103 Gin Oaks Court, which is just off Sullivan Street in downtown Madison.
All items cost $1 or less. Shopping is open to anyone in financial need.
“Being that we have grown tremendously the past three years, we’re hoping to reach even more this year and continue expanding the amount of people we can help,” Rolling said. She has added a Clothing for Confidence site in Auburn, where she attends college at Auburn University.
Rolling believes this simple level of self-confidence “can sometimes be all a child needs to branch out, make new friends, speak up or even move outside their comfort zone.”
Money collected from clothing sales will buy more clothing to help those in need, Rolling said.
“We graciously ask for your help in this endeavor and pray you will have a compassionate heart towards our mission,” Rolling said. “If we do find favor in your heart, we also ask that you please spread the word. We cannot do this without the generous support of our community.”
