Shaw running for City Council, District 4
MADISON – Greg Shaw is seeking his first term on Madison City Council as District 4 representative.
“I have the understanding of an employer, management skills of a small-business owner, keen insight into the city’s infrastructure and awareness of issues facing Madison City Schools (MCS) to be an effective representative on City Council,” Shaw said.
Shaw pledges to advocate for continuing improvements with Madison’s infrastructure by working with engineering, Public Works and Madison Utilities. “My experience as an employer will be valuable in bringing a common-sense management philosophy to help council and mayor navigate the years ahead,” he said.
“With effective teamwork, Madison can grow the supportive retail, produce the infrastructure to service existing and future residents and cooperate with MCS in a mutually beneficial manner,” Shaw said.
Greg and wife Kimberly Romans Shaw graduated from Bob Jones High School. In 2010, he was named to Bob Jones Hall of Fame. Married 16-plus years, the Shaws have two children: Maddie, 11, and Reed, 3.
Greg Shaw was instrumental in activating the architectural control committee for Cedar Springs Homeowners and served as its president several years.
At Auburn University, he earned a bachelor’s degree in horticulture. Circa 1996, he established Southern Scape LLC on Palmer Road. He employs 35 full-time and 10-15 seasonal personnel. His company has completed work in six-plus states for commercial and estate landscaping.
LandOpt professional association named Shaw as 2012 “Rookie of the Year.” Shaw has “worked with all levels of government and served on a commission to improve the bidding process for the state.”
Shaw believes he has keen insight into Madison schools. He has served on committees by invitation from MCS Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler and Madison Board of Education President Dr. Terri Johnson.
Shaw has served on MCS committees reviewing coaches’ salary supplements and for principals and now serves with a group for generating revenue. “I’m very aware of issues associated with Limestone County,” Shaw said.
“I’m enthusiastic about serving on City Council representing District 4. I have the background, experience and communicative skills to be an effective councilman,” he said.
