MADISON – Kayla Williams, a 2016 graduate of James Clemens High School, earned a scholarship from Mediacom Communications Corporation as part of the company’s World Class Scholarship Program.

The award recognizes the Madison resident for outstanding leadership and academic accomplishments.

Annually, Mediacom gives $1,000 scholarships to 55 graduating seniors to provide support for the students’ post-secondary education. Williams received the scholarship on May 17 during James Clemens’ recognition program from Lee Beck, Senior Manager of Area Operations for Mediacom.

“As a technology company, Mediacom understands how important it is to invest in future leaders like Kayla Williams,” Beck said. “I’m proud that my company supports talented local students with scholarship support, and we congratulate Kayla on her accomplishments.”

Williams also earned a scholarship for track and field from Mississippi State University. She holds multiple state records in class 7A, including long jump and triple jump, and is ranked nationally in several events.

Williams formerly played point guard in basketball for James Clemens, Liberty Middle School and Alabama Elite. Her parents are Reginald and Satonya Williams.

This year marks the 15th consecutive year that Mediacom has funded World Class Scholarships for students who live in areas served by the cable and broadband company. On average, approximately 1,200 students apply for the scholarships each year.

Recipients must attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or technical school within the United States. Mediacom will notify high school administrators in fall 2016 when scholarship applications become available online for students in the Class of 2017.

Mediacom is the eighth largest cable operator in the United State and serves about 1.3 million customers in smaller markets primarily in the Midwest and Southeast. Mediacom offers information, communications and entertainment services to households and businesses, including video, high-speed data, phone and home security and automation.
