Wood joins library staff
MADISON – Anne Wood has accepted the position of Adult Services Librarian at Madison Public Library.
“I was getting close to finishing my master’s degree in library and information studies and was looking for a job in my field,” she said.
“I’ll be supervising adult programming, as well as leading book clubs, (and) do the library’s social media,” she said. Wood also assists patrons with finding books and information, along with assisting the collection development.
For adult programming, Wood has “tons of ideas. We already have some amazing adult programs … but for starters, we’re planning music programs and workshops for adults. We’ve got ukulele lessons coming in July and hopefully will expand to guitar workshops.”
As an avid Pinterest fan, Wood hopes to present Pinterest-inspired DIY workshops. “We’re hosting an event at Blue Pants Brewery this summer. I want to continue to reach out to breweries, restaurants and other fun spots in the community to really get the library out there,” she said. “Stay tuned!”
This summer, adults can log their reading on the library system’s GoodReads bookshelf and enter to win prizes. “We’re exercising our mind by ‘stepping our way to the moon,’ (requiring) 238,857 miles or 477,714,000 steps. We have pedometers available for patrons,” Wood said.
An Adult Field Day will involve Spirited Art, author visits and more.
Wood earned a bachelor’s degree in English/art history at Birmingham-Southern College and a master’s degree at the University of Alabama. She also studied abroad at Oxford, United Kingdom.
Previously, she worked at Harrison Brothers and several temporary jobs while in college.
Born and raised in Huntsville, Wood recently rented her first apartment in Madison. “Once I started my job here in Madison and got to know the community, I knew I wanted to make the move,” she said.
She rescued her dog Randy, a chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix.
Wood is a member of Junior League Huntsville. Her pastimes are reading and writing, binge watching “Law & Order SVU” on Netflix, hiking, walking with Randy, yoga and spending time with family, especially her new nephew, Henry.
