Mashburn remembers first over-the-fence homerun
Athlete of the Week
MADISON – Kellen Mashburn, a sixth-grader at West Madison Elementary School, believes he can best channel his athletic skills in the game of baseball.
In baseball, Mashburn plays for the Bulls as shortstop and pitcher. He also plays basketball in Madison’s recreation league and handles the position of point guard.
“Baseball is my favorite (sport), because that’s what I feel I’m best at,” Mashburn said.
At West Madison, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His physical education teacher is Allison Daugherty.
Kellen’s parents are Chad and Stephanie Mashburn. “My mom works at PAR Pharmaceutical as a project manager. My dad is a stay-at-home dad,” Kellen said. Kellen’s brother, Brendan Bickleman, is a sophomore at Bob Jones High School.
“As Kellen’s parents, we could not be more proud of his accomplishments so far in life. He’s a good student athlete and all around good kid,” Chad and Stephanie Mashburn said.

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Hot wings.
Q: What restaurant do you like to go to in Madison?
A: For Mexican food, Kellen likes to eat at Las Trojas. When he craves chicken wings, he always asks to go to Cricket’s.
Q: What are your favorite sports teams?
A: Kansas City Royals, Oklahoma City thunder and San Diego Chargers.
Q: What is your favorite sports memory?
A: Kellen always will remember “hitting my first homerun over the fence.”
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Kellen divides his spare time between playing outside and playing video games on his Xbox.
Q: Where do you hope to attend college, and what will be your major?
A: Kellen wants to enroll at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and study to be an engineer.
