MADISON – Richard Allen King II has completed his first semester of rigorous, advanced courses at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

King graduated from James Clemens High School in May 2015 and headed to the academy in June. After first semester, he qualified for the Dean’s List for academic achievement and the Commandant’s List for outstanding military performance.

King was one of only 53 cadets within the 4,026-member Cadet Wing to have a perfect 4.0 GPA for the 2015 fall semester. As a result, he was named a member of the Selective Dean’s Academic A-Team. A-Team Cadets were recognized at a banquet held in their honor.

Currently, King is ranked in the top one percent of the Class of 2019, consisting of approximately 1,200 cadets, for both academics and military performance. In addition, he ranks in the top one percent of all 4,026 academy cadets in academics.

First-semester classes for King included boxing, soaring (planes), advanced-placement calculus 3, scholars’ military history, chemistry, computer science and German civilizations and cultures (a college senior-level course).

Tests of military knowledge and performance ratings from his superiors were the judge for King’s achievements.

“Academy classes are known for being difficult,” King said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect. Having finished a semester, I am happy that my teachers at James Clemens did a great job preparing me for the rigors of the academy courses.”

While visiting his family for Christmas in Madison, King attended the All Service Academy Ball in Georgia with academy classmates.
