United Way, FamilyWize save $534,602 for prescriptions

MADISON COUNTY – United Way of Madison County and FamilyWize Community Service Partnership established a partnership that has saved $534,602 for Madison County residents during the past 10 years.

“FamilyWize, a longtime partner of United Way, works with nearly 1,000 local United Ways to make all FDA- approved prescription medication more affordable for individuals with high prescription costs,” Cathy P. Miller said. Miller serves as Community Impact Director of United Way of Madison County.

Nationally, FamilyWize and United Way have helped more 8 million people save more than $830 million on needed prescription medications.

Founded in 1943, United Way has connected people in need with those who can help, investing almost $100 million throughout Madison County. The FamilyWize organization focuses on improving health and well being of individuals, families and communities.

Savings of $534,602 resulted from 29,679 claims. “Thanks to our partnership with FamilyWize, we are able to transform lives, providing a way for our neighbors to stay healthy and take care of other essentials,” she said.

“Reducing the burden of high prescription medication costs for those who are uninsured or underinsured helps more individuals and families have adequate dollars to spend on essentials, such as food, shelter and clothing,” Miller said.

FamilyWize’s Prescription Savings Card is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide and 90 percent locally. “It’s a ‘point-of-sales savings’ (no reimbursements to file), free to all consumers, has no income limit and provides an average savings of 42 percent,” Miller said.

Individuals can call 800-222-2818 and request a card by mail or download the free FamilyWize app. Consumers can download a card from FamilyWize at madisoncountycares.org/whatwedo/health/familywize.

Supplies of the cards for physicians and nonprofit organizations also are available at the local United Way office, 701 Andrew Jackson Way NE in Huntsville.

FamilyWize also offers a Drug Price Lookup Tool, an online resource to compare prescription prices and find the local pharmacy with the lowest price. Visit FamilyWize.org.
