MADISON – The potential for Madison’s largest retail/mixed-use complex just grew by more than 200 acres.

To expand Town Madison, Breland Companies CEO Louis Breland has purchased more than 200 acres of the Intergraph campus. Town Madison now encompasses 500 acres with 2.5 miles of I-565 frontage.

Hexagon Geospatial acquired Intergraph in 2010 and consolidated all employees from other buildings in its new headquarters in 2014.

Breland said this project has been developed over countless hours of meetings and discussions with community leaders and Intergraph contacts. “We are truly changing the face of Madison with this new development. The vision for Town Madison is to provide a first-class regional shopping, dining, entertainment, living and working destination that will become the center of commerce for this entire region,” Breland said.

Approximately 600,000 square feet of Intergraph buildings, iconic to Madison’s business footprint, will be demolished.

City and county officials joined Breland for the announcement on Dec. 17.

“This is great news for Town Madison and our entire community,” Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong. “The purchase of this property by the Breland Companies takes what was a major regional development and pushes it to the next level.”

“Today is a great day for Madison as we continue to grow and develop Town Madison,” Mayor Troy Trulock said. “This effort will allow us to provide a comprehensive master plan/development plan to maximize our growth potential as we build out the largest economic development area in our community.”

The project’s total investment is estimated at more than $400 million and will create 1,600 new jobs, according to a Breland Companies press release. Town Madison will include 900,000 square feet of mixed-use buildings, 450,000 square feet of office space and 450 new hotel rooms.

Town Madison recently secured federal and state approvals for a new interchange at Zierdt Road. Construction will begin in first quarter 2016 with completion estimated in summer 2017.

Acquiring the Intergraph property “will help ‘jump start’ this regional development,” Madison County Commissioner Steve Haraway said. “We now … can meet any timeline businesses might need as they seek a location at the heart of the fastest growing area in the Southeast.”
