Jury continues deliberation in Eric Parker trial
HUNTSVILLE – Jury deliberations continue in the trial for former Madison police officer Eric Parker, who faces accusations of civil rights violation and excessive force.
In February on a neighborhood street near County Line Road, Parker was arrested after an incident left Sureshbhai Patel partially paralyzed.
On Sept. 10, the jury told the judge that they could not reach a unanimous decision. The jury asked the judge about the legalities for a suspect’s pat down by a law enforcement officer and if Patel was allowed to leave home without his green card. The judge instructed the jury to return to their deliberations on Sept. 11.
On the morning of Sept. 11, attorneys for both the prosecution and defense met privately with the judge. After a lunch break, the jury returned to their discussions about 1 p.m. in federal court in Huntsville.
