Madison- Horace Strong, the father of Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong passed away this morning, August 22, 2015. He was 75 years old. Mr. Strong was felled by a sudden illness and passed away in Huntsville Hospital.

Mr. Strong was active as recently as a week ago, visiting family and friends so his sudden death took many of his wide circle of friends in Madison County by surprise.

Dale Strong released the following statement on his facebook page at 9 A.M. this morning.

“This morning my dad Horace Nunley Strong III traveled his final mile…just as he would have wanted it….with his family by his side! It has been an unbelievable seven days…our faith has never been STRONGER!”

Mr. Strong was the current owner of Strong Tours. He drove a school bus in the Monrovia/Sparkman community for many years. He also ran a gas station and convenience store Strong’s Shop Easy for many years.

Condolences have been pouring in all day for Dale and his sister Kelly Brewer who works and lives in Madison.

Mr. Strong was a huge part of the Monrovia community.  He was a driving force behind much of the development that has taken place there.

The Monrovia Fire-Rescue released the following statement today, August 22,1015-

It is with a heavy heart that we inform our fire family and community, that Horace Nunley Strong, III, one of MVFD’s founding members and first Chief, went home to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ this morning.

Chief Strong was a founding member of MVFD and served as Chief from 1965 until 1988. He continued to serve and mentor each of us until the Lord called him home.

Please continue to keep the Strong family in your thoughts and prayers. We’ll update once arrangements become available.
