MADISON – The Madison Softball League (MSL) is taking athletes for its fall season during its current online registration period.

The local program, which holds activities at Palmer Park, offers structured softball activities for girls during the fall and spring months. The fall season, however, is described by Collin Barrow, communications manager for the league, as a good time for athletes to learn and develop fundamentals and good playing habits.

“It’s a little bit more of a relaxed environment,” Barrow said.

The divisions for the league are 6-under-, 8-under, 10-under, 12-under and 14-under. The fall season consists of 12 games. The MSL is made up of five to six teams, and the 12 games come from playing the opposing teams in the league, Barrow said.

“Every once in a while we’ll play [teams from] Monrovia and Decatur,” he clarified.

New for this fall is the creation of a travel team. Every girl who intends to play on a recreation team, except for the athletes competing in the 6-under division, will be able to try out for the travel squad. Athletes will be able to play on both the recreation and travel teams should they placed as such.

The fall practices are set to be begin on Aug. 17, with the games starting a month later on Sep. 14.

Most girls, Barrow said, utilize MSL for preparation prior to trying out for the middle school teams in the area.

“Obviously, the level of play gets a little more intense at each age level,” he said. “As you get to 12u, you’re preparing them for middle school softball.”

The cost to participate in the fall season in $55. More information can be found at westco-softball.com
