MADISON – While temperatures have been running hotter than usual, going into the low 90s, the James Clemens football team has still been hard at work with typical early-morning workouts in the summer.

“It has been hot out here,” Jets coach Wade Waldrop said on June 18. “It’s been a little tough. I was just telling them it feels like August out here.”

The Jets put in practice before taking a week off and resuming practices after the July 4 weekend and full schedule the rest of the month.

In addition to a skills camp for offensive and defensive linemen on July 14, the team is set to participate in three 7-on-7 camps the month of July, including at Samford University, Russellville High School and Middle Tennessee State University.

“July is more of our month for that,” Waldrop said of the 7-on-7 competitions.

The Jets are also set to travel to Hartselle for a team day, an organized team activity for the benefit of the entire team.

“It’s actually a little better than 7-on-7’s,” Waldrop said. “It’s for more than just our starters and main guys.”

After July, practice for fall will begin in haste, with afternoon practices starting in early August. The first day of school is Wed, Aug. 5, and the Jets begin preseason action with a jamboree contest against East Limestone on Aug. 20 at the Madison City Stadium.
