MADISON – What will high school be like? Discovery Middle School eighth-graders previewed the future during their Patriot Expedition at Bob Jones High School on March 19.

“The entire day was filled with excitement as Bob Jones students introduced the eighth-graders to high school through plays, skits, small-group discussions and presentations. The high-schoolers were in charge of presentations and excited to share their enthusiasm,” Bob Jones Assistant Principal Sylvia Lambert said.

Opening the expedition, Bob Jones Singers performed in Zompa Auditorium. Drama students presented “Lies about High School.” Principal Robby Parker welcomed the soon-to-be freshmen.

Bob Jones freshmen and Air Force JROTC cadets led an extensive campus tour. In the band room, Bob Jones Drumline presented its show. Health science students discussed their experiences.

Brandy Panagos spoke about multimedia design and creative writing classes. World language students described their courses, instructional partner Mary Oliver said.

“The tour highlighted academy programs like engineering and bio-medical/health science and career technical programs. Discovery students learned about clubs, athletics and extracurricular activities in which they can participate,” Oliver said.

Closing the expedition, Bob Jones Winter Guard presented its 2015 show, and eighth-graders posed for a group photograph. That evening, Bob Jones held its annual Curriculum Fair for all students and parents to survey 2015-2016 classes.

“We saw a sea of red Bob Jones T-shirts worn by the eighth-graders, leading their parents to numerous tables and displays to meet Bob Jones teachers and learn about upcoming curriculum offerings. What an exciting day,” Lambert said.

“It was great to tour while school is going on,” eighth-grader Thomas Oliver said. “We have an idea of what to expect when we start school in the fall. I’m very excited about being a Bob Jones Patriot.”

For eighth-grader Abbey Patrick, the favorite experience was “Lies about High School.” “It was funny. I could relate to what they presented. I’m looking forward to exploring electives to help plan my future career.”

“Of course, I can’t wait to be cheering for Bob Jones and Friday night football,” Patrick said.
