Dr. Cole-Suttlar opens family medicine practice in Madison
MADISON – Dr. Charlene Cole-Suttlar is seeing patients at Madison’s newest family medicine practice at 3810 Sullivan St., Suite B.
Cole-Suttlar chose family medicine as her specialty “due to the changing dynamics of health care in this country. Family care practitioners are more needed than ever.”
“Madison is a wonderful community with some of the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered,” Cole-Suttlar said. “My family and I have made Madison our home, and I’m honored to serve the community’s medical needs as a way of showing my appreciation for all of our new friends here.”
She wants “to be on the front line to ensure that my community’s growing health care needs would be met by competent, caring hands.”
The field of medicine attracted her “to lend a helping, healing hand to those closest to me, especially in their most vulnerable moments,” Cole-Suttlar said. Her interest in teaching also correlates to physician care.
“I believe one of the primary jobs of a physician is to educate patients on managing their health … from weight management to understanding how medicine works,” Cole-Suttlar said.
In her Madison practice, Cole-Suttlar will accept wellness visits and annual physicals, well-child checks, acute care visits, well-woman exams, minor procedures and sports physicals. She will see patients who are at least two years old.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Spelman College in Atlanta. At Emory University in Atlanta, she obtained a master’s degree in neuroscience. She graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
“I’m a recent graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, Huntsville Family Medicine residency. I trained and practiced with UAB Huntsville for three years,” Cole-Suttlar said.
She and husband Michael have one daughter, Seraphina.
She holds membership in Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society and American Academy Of Family Physicians.
