Discovery invites military personnel to ‘Tribute to Heroes’ on Nov. 4
MADISON – With Veterans Day approaching, Discovery Middle School is hosting its third annual “Tribute to Heroes” on Nov 4.
“Discovery cordially invites all veterans, active duty soldiers and reservists in any branch of the military for this day of honor,” event organizer Anthony Graham said. Graham teaches math at Discovery.
Graham asks that military personnel wear red, white and blue or camouflage to the Tribute to Heroes so the audience can recognize them easily and thank them for service to their country. “We look forward to letting our veterans know how much we appreciate them,” Graham said.
The event day will start with a Heroes Breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. The Heroes Ceremony will be held at a school-wide assembly in the Discovery gym from 9 to 10 a.m.
After the posting of the colors, the Discovery choir will sing “The National Anthem.” The Discovery Dance Team also will perform.
Graham will welcome the visiting heroes, followed by featured speaker Mitchell Daly with a Veterans Day speech. The Discovery Band will perform a medley of patriotic songs.
A Remembrance Wreath Ceremony will follow as a somber testament during the Tribute to Heroes. The band will play “Taps,” and the choir will sing “God Bless America.”
Madison Mayor Troy Trulock, who retired from a career in the U.S. Army, is scheduled to participate. Graham acknowledged Discovery students in helping present the 2014 Tribute to Heroes.
Graham requests that any military personnel who plan to attend the ceremony to contact him by Nov. 1 by calling 256-652-1790 or emailing to agraham@madisoncity.k12.al.us.
