Library branches get scary with Halloween plans

MADISON COUNTY – ‘Things that go bump in the night’ will cause goosebumps at Huntsville-Madison County Public Library branches for Halloween.

For “Monday Night Fright Night,” the downtown library in Huntsville will screen 1985’s “Fright Night” on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in the second-floor Events Room. Admission is free.

Monrovia’s Halloween Party on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. will feature dress-up fun, games, stories, crafts and treats for the family. Call 256-489-3392.

At Bailey Cove, Teen Night with Halloween crafts will be held Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Call 256-881-0257.

“Want to hear something really scary?” communications director Ann Marie Martin said. “Contribute your best spooky story for ‘After Hours in New Hope’ at the Elizabeth Carpenter Library on Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. The program is appropriate for ages 10 and older.”

New Hope’s program will include a spooky movie, prizes for the best stories, refreshments and costumes. Call 256-723-2995.

In Madison, youth services librarians will present an original story, “The Bravish Rabbit and the Not-So-Smart Raccoon” during a family-friendly Halloween party on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. Kids can trick or treat during a costume parade throughout the library.

Madison’s party will also feature spooky stories and, of course, candy. Call 256-461-0046.

Also on Oct. 30, the Triana library will have a pumpkin-carving contest at 6 p.m. “Bring your masterpiece to the library and show off your carving skills,” Martin said. ‘Treats, no tricks’ will be served from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call 256-772-9943.

Downtown, “Trick-or-Treat the Library” on Halloween Day, Oct. 31 will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Youth services will hold a scavenger hunt. “The ‘Spooktacular Puppet Show’ will feature fun tales from favorite books, rhymes and songs at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.,” Martin said. Call 256-532-5982.

Also downtown, “It’s Sweet 2 Read” fundraiser on Nov. 1 will feature desserts and will benefit the Showers Center Library. “Delicious baked goods will be sold from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,” Martin said. Call 256-851-7492 or email to lcawthorn@hmcpl.org.
