MADISON – Huntsville Community Chorus (HCC) and the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Band will present “Glory: Our Star-Spangled Banner” at James Clemens High School auditorium, 11306 County Line Road.

The concert is a tribute to the bicentennial anniversary of America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The concert on Sept. 27 will start at 7:30 p.m.

For this concert, the chorus and AMC Band are joining forces with living history presenters in 1st Patriot Support, narrator Bill Fox and HCC Children’s Chorale.

The groups will “bring you an inspiring and educational concert centered around the anthem, the flag it celebrates and the events of that night in 1814” when Francis Scott Key composed the piece, HCC Artistic Director Billy Orton stated on the chorus’ Facebook page.

The concert will relate the story of ‘Old Glory’ and what the icon has meant to its defenders. The program will feature several local composers’ arrangements of the anthem and cover four of the historic verses.

“Randall Thompson’s inspiring setting of quotes from Thomas Jefferson, ‘Testament of Freedom,’ a truly magnificent and patriotic work,” Orton said. “The 1st Patriot Support will step us through the history of several of the banners under which we have served.”

The AMC Band will perform inspiring marches, along with several testaments to Americana, such as “God Bless America” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and military personnel. For college students, tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the event. Free admission is offered to youth who are 13 years old through high school seniors, along with children twelve years old and younger with a paying adult.

Established in 1946, Huntsville Community Chorus Association is incorporated as a non-profit, all-volunteer organization and holds claim at Huntsville’s most venerable performing arts group.

For tickets or more information, call HCC at 256-533-6606, email to info@thechorus.org or visit thechorus.org or the office at 3312 Long Ave. in Huntsville.
