Carnegie Visual Arts Show selects True’s ‘Balancing Act’

MADISON, DECATUR – Work by local artist Angela Kimberling True has been accepted in the Carnegie Visual Arts Show, “Embracing Art.”
The “Embracing Art” show will be open from Aug. 12 to Sept. 20. A tea for artists and their friends and family will be held Aug. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m.
“My piece, “Balancing Act’ is an abstract representational piece about balance in life,” True said about her work in this painting series. She chose colors from her “personal palette,” which she often uses.
Carnegie officials “had a procedure for juried acceptance or denial in the show,” she said. Artists will receive first-, second- and third-place awards and Director’s Choice Award.
“I’m so excited to be chosen for the Carnegie show and so humbled by the knowledge that I’ll be on exhibit with many other artists much better than I,” True said. That same week, True also learned about her acceptance as a Lowe Mill resident artist.
“I was really over the top with gratitude,” True said.
For “Balancing Act,” True allowed colors of acrylic paint to form the background and then applied acrylic inks. She only uses Golden’s highly pigmented fluid acrylics for this process.
“When the background has been created using water misting and letting the paint choices run and dry alternately, I choose a theme and insert it into the piece,” True said. Her husband Jim was instrumental in choosing this painting’s theme. “He was my ‘muse,'” Angie said.
True’s pieces also are on display at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center by The Arts Council.

Carnegie Visual Arts Center was restored in 2003 to serve the area with fine art exhibitions and classes. The building, formerly the Carnegie Library of Decatur, was built in 1904 with a donation from millionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
