Parker recovering at home after bicycle accident
MADISON – Robby Parker, principal at Bob Jones High School, is recovering at home following a bicycle accident on June 28.
Parker was finishing a 35-mile bike ride and riding through Park Meadow subdivision.
“The derailer, the part that holds the chain on the bike frame, came off. This caused the chain to pop and break. When it did, it threw Robby off the bike onto the pavement at about 22 mph,” his wife Anita Parker stated in a Facebook post.
“Robby fell onto his left hip. It broke the neck of the femur near the hip ball joint,” Anita Parker said.
Robby Parker underwent successful surgery at Huntsville Hospital on June 28 around 7:30 p.m. to place “three pins to help mend the break,” she said.
On the morning on June 29, nurses helped Robby Parker out of bed and to a chair. “He is feeling much better this morning. He ate breakfast and is trying to rest now. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers,” Anita Parker stated.
“It’s going to be rough … not so much the recovery but because he won’t be able to workout and ride his bike nor run,” she said.
Robby Parker was dismissed from Huntsville Hospital on June 30.
In recent weeks, Parker was a 2014 recipient of the “Making A Difference” award from the Alabama High School Athletic Association. He also was named “Outstanding School Administrator of the Year” by the Alabama PTA Association.
A triathlete, Parker often enters triathlon or duathlon contests of endurance that involve swimming, cycling and long-distance running. He trains about six days each week.
