MADISON – Hogan Family YMCA is registering children and families for fun-filled outings at Camp Cha-La-Kee on Lake Guntersville.

Camp Cha-La-Kee offers three camp programs for overnight stays. Organizers promise campers will have opportunities to make new friends, create lifelong memories and learn skills that build self-esteem, independence and a love for the great outdoors.

On its 61-acre campus on Lake Guntersville, Camp Cha-La-Kee is a sleep-away camp for children who are seven to 16 years old. The camp incorporates wholesome outdoor fun with life-changing character development.

Camp activities include canoeing, horseback riding, zipline runs, archery, boating, tubing, swimming, arts and crafts, ‘The Blob,’ nightly devotions, among other sessions. The camper-to-counselor ratio is six to one.

A healthcare professional is onsite 24 hours each day to administer first aid and dispense camper medication. The summer staff includes dedicated, caring young adults that focus on safety, fun and friendships, organizers stated.

Kids Camp on June 15-21 will follow the theme “Super Hero Week.” The next Kids Camp on June 22-28 will have an imagination theme.

Family Camp will meet on June 29 through July 1 and again on July 2-4. The themes are “Game Show Week” and “Liberty Week,” respectively.

The half-week Ranger camps cost $200 for YMCA members or $250 for people who aren’t members. The fee for one-week Explorer camps, which meet Sunday through Saturday, is $475 for members or $575 for individuals who aren’t members.

Family camps cover three days and two nights. Children younger than six years old stay free. Each family has a private lodge. The fee is $200 per person for two to seven people, or $175 per person for eight to 14 people.

Joey Barnard is camp director. The camp office is located at the Hogan Family YMCA at 130 Park Square Lane in Madison. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
