MADISON – Residents can sharpen their savings savvy and investing know-how in upcoming classes offered by the main and Madison branches of Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

“Mind Your Money” is a free lunch-and-learn series during March, April and May that will offer financial advice. The classes will focus on topics like savings plans, investment options and assessing and managing risks.

The main library at 915 Monroe St. in Huntsville will host lunch classes on March 27 and April 3, 10 and 24 from noon to 1 p.m.

Madison Public Library will host “Mind Your Money” at the Hogan Family YMCA, 130 Park Square Lane on April 28 and May 5, 12 and 19 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Lunch will be provided for both series.

The library is also giving library cardholders access to Morningstar Investment Research Center. “The center offers real-time access to comprehensive data and independent analysis on thousands of investments, spanning mutual funds, stocks, exchange-traded funds and closed-end funds,” library communications director Ann Marie Martin said.

A grant from “Smart investing@your library” funded the financial series. Smart investing@your library is administered jointly by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation and American Library Association.

This special program for grants provides library patrons with access to effective, unbiased resources for financial education. All types of libraries — community-based, branch networks and community colleges — benefit from these grants.

Libraries receiving the grants then share the material with schools, universities and local agencies. Since 2007, Smart investing@your library has awarded 111 grants totaling more than $8.2 million (smartinvesting.ala.org).
