Indian Springs falls to Madison Academy

BIRMINGHAM – Indian Springs School came up short in its bid to capture the 2013 AHSAA Class 3A volleyball state championship, falling in the Elite Eight to Madison Academy, 3-0.

The Mustangs outscored ISS 25-9, 25-13 and 25-18.

Despite the loss, head coach Christina Tetzlaff said she was proud of her squad, which captured the Class 3, Area 8 championship to reach the finals.

“Only eight teams woke up this morning in 3A play,” she said. “Indian Springs was one of them. I am so proud of my girls just to get here. We fought so hard this year to get here, and now that we know what it feels like to be here, we’re going to fight hard to get back next year.”

Stella Davis led ISS with seven kills and four digs, while Margot Balliet had four kills and five digs. Alex Smith had four digs and six assists.

For the Mustangs, Taylor Gill had 13 kills, 11 digs and an ace. Cece Blanchard had 12 kills a block and a dig. Lauren Milar had two kills and 13 assists. Kerri Whittaker had six kills and two aces, and Abby Brooks had seven kills and three aces.
