LifeSouth wants donors to ‘Bleed for Your Team’

MADISON – LifeSouth Community Blood Center is capitalizing on fans’ allegiance to Southeastern Conference football with their “Bleed for Your Team” campaign.

“A rumbling from flags flying from car windows, a watering of the mouth triggered by the smell of sausage and burgers grilling at a tailgate on a Saturday morning, people dressed in their favorite SEC team shirt — these are all signs that college football season is here,” Tamara Watts said.

Watts works as district community development coordinator at LifeSouth.

Timing for the blood drive is important, because blood donations decline typically during summertime. “Arrival of football season is a good reminder that it’s now time to donate blood,” Watts said. “To encourage that idea, LifeSouth’s ‘Bleed for Your Team’ promotion is something to cheer about.”

Donors at the LifeSouth center or bloodmobile will receive a T-shirt with a collegiate logo. “So whether a donor bleeds crimson, orange and blue, or red and black, there’s a shirt to match his or her passion,” Watts said.

Giving blood requires only 45 minutes. “Before heading to the stadium or slipping into an easy chair to watch the game on TV, consider giving blood to save a life,” Watts said.

The “Bleed for Your Team” campaign will run throughout October and November.

“As a community blood center, the blood donated with LifeSouth stays in the communities it serves,” Watts said. “Donors are saving lives in their communities. Their friends, family members and neighbors who find themselves in need are the ones who benefit directly.”

To donate, a person must be 17 years old or older. However, 16-year-olds can donate if they have written consent from a parent, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good health. Also, photo identification is required.

LifeSouth now has headquarters located at 8190 Madison Blvd.
