Stanley named president of Girl Scout board

MADISON – Dawn C. Stanley has been appointed as president of the board of directors with the Girls Scouts of North-Central Alabama.

“The Girls Scouts of North-Central Alabama is the premier organization for girls,” Stanley said. “I am honored to serve the council in this capacity.”

Stanley works as a technical manager for engineering and integration with space launch systems at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center. A resident of Madison County, Stanley has received the Girl Scout Scroll of Honor and chaired the North Alabama Women of Distinction event for three years.

As president, Stanley will act as the principal officer of the council, presiding at all council, board and executive committee meetings. She will support the council’s direction and oversee its performance and report to the council and board about the council’s conduct and management performance, communications coordinator Robyn Tucker said.

In addition, Stanley will serve as an ex-officio member of all committees, except the board development committee.

“Dawn’s experience in the engineering field sets her apart as an accomplished female in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) career,” Trish Coghlan said. Coghlan serves as chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama. “Her leadership will help with our ToGetHerThere campaign, since she understands what girls need to truly succeed.”

Stanley attended the Executive Development Institute at the University of North Carolina and earned a bachelor’s degree in science engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is a graduate of 2009 Leadership Alabama, along with Adult Leadership Alabama with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama is a United Way community partner and serves more than 15,000 girl members who are five to 17 years old. The organization has 5,000 volunteers across 36 counties.
