MADISON – Daniel Whitt of James Clemens High School has been invited as a guest speaker at the TEDxHuntsville 2013 event.

‘TED’ represents technology, entertainment and design.

Founded in 1984 as a four-day conference, the nonprofit TED organization promotes “ideas worth spreading” from the worlds of technology, entertainment and design. TED conducts annual conferences on the West Coast and in Edinburgh, United Kingdom and produces award-winning videos, projects and ‘conversations.’ (ted.com)

With the theme “Breaking Boundaries, Building Connections,” the fifth annual TEDxHuntsville event on Sept. 15 will explore the concepts of building connections with individuals’ creativity and passions. (The ‘x’ indicates an independently organized TED event.)

Like other presenters, Whitt will have 18 minutes to speak. After the conference, these talks are available at TED.com. Participants will approach questions, such as “What barriers prohibit ideas for society to grow and to have a sustainable energy plan?” local founder and curator Everett Alexander said.

Whitt teaches broadcasting and works as media specialist, concentrating on digital media, at James Clemens.

As a speaker, Whitt will join the ranks of some of the world’s leading thinkers. TED presenters have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Sir Richard Branson and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

“TEDxHuntsville 2013 will stretch your imagination, challenge your thinking and inspire you to connect with a deeper knowledge of the world around us,” Alexander said.

The event will be held at the Thurber Arts Center at Randolph School, 4915 Garth Road SE in Huntsville. Registration will open at noon. Guests can browse exhibits in the TEDxLab area. Two sessions will each last for 1.5 hours. Guests can gather for an after party at 6 p.m. at Drake’s, 4800 Whitesburg Drive SE, Suite 14.

Participants are encouraged to interact, share dialogues and ask questions to each other. “The conversations at TEDx events happen to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the day,” Alexander said.
