MADISON – Jordan Harris of James Clemens High School was named to the 2013 All-Star North basketball team for the state of Alabama.

“Jordan was our first All-Star at James Clemens,” Principal Dr. Brian Clayton said.

To select All-Star players, each school “can nominate as many individuals as they would like for any sport. Then, a pre-selected committee that includes coaches or other Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) members goes through the nominations and selects the All-Star North and South teams,” Harris said.

This selection committee reviews player stats from their junior season in high school, grades and ACT scores. They select 15 players each for a team to represent the north and south half of Alabama. Harris’ academic record was a definite asset with his score of 30 on the ACT.

Harris and his teammates practiced for three days in Montgomery and then played the South team at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University on July 17. His coaches were Rodney Chatman of Center Point and Heath Burns of Parrish.

The North All-Stars won 96-70. For this win, Harris played a solid, well-performed defensive game.

A James Clemens senior, Harris enjoyed meeting other players from across the state and “just getting the opportunity at all,” he said.

For the 2013-2014 season, the James Clemens Jets “will have a better season than last year. We all know each other better and have a lot of good up-and-coming younger players,” Harris said.

Jordan’s parents are Norman and Becky Harris. Jordan’s brother Brandon played basketball for Bob Jones High School and graduated in May 2012.

“We moved to Madison in 2002,” Jordan said. “My parents moved us from the East Limestone school district specifically so we could attend school in the Madison City Schools system.”

He is still considering his college choice. “I have narrowed down where I will apply. I’m thinking of going pre-law for my major,” Jordan said.
