Father of Discovery shooter arrested for theft

MADISON — The father of Discovery School shooter Hammad Memon was arrested early Wednesday on theft charges.
Attorney General Luther Strange announced the arrest of Iqbal Memon early Tuesday. Memon, 51, is charged with stealing more than $7,000 from the Alabama Medical Agency.
Memon was arrested by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and is being held on a $10,000 bond. Strange said Memon is waiting to be extradited to Montgomery County where he was indicted.
If convicted, Memon could face up to 20 years in prison and a $60,000 fine. Memon was being investigated by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Memon is the father of convicted Discovery Middle School shooter Hammad Memon. He and his wife Safia are awaiting trial for hindering procession.
