Aspiring photographers show skills in Reflections

Perspective, lighting and aesthetics are only a few skills that students mastered in photography for 2013 Reflections.

(CONTRIBUTED: National PTA Reflections)

PTAs in all Madison schools sponsored the fine arts contest.

Photography rules allowed either black-and-white or color images produced by a photographic process that related to the 2013 theme, “The Magic of a Moment.” Students could incorporate techniques such as photomontage, multiple exposure and photograms by using conventional or digital tools.

Judges expect a student’s entry to properly use techniques, like depth of field and exposure. Students could use various lenses, filters and light sources. The judging focused on the student’s ability to use artistic vision to portray the theme (pta.org/programs).

In the primary division, Kathryn Humphress at Madison Elementary School was first-place winner for “The Golden Light Bulb.” Madeline Edwards at Rainbow Elementary School earned second place for “Magical Bubbles” and Lauren Evans at Columbia Elementary School earned third for “Waterwheel Magic.” Honorable mentions went to Isabella Ross, Columbia, “The Magic of Mary” and Lindsey Tucker, Mill Creek Elementary School, “The Amazing Cat.”

For the intermediate division, Alex Edwards at Rainbow won first place for “Holy Moment – 100 Prayers.” Other finalists were Caleb Blackmon, second, Madison, “A Magical Reading Moment”; Brandon Clark, third, Columbia, “The Magnificent Butterfly”; and honorable mentions for Ryan Revera, Horizon Elementary School, “The Color Changing Cloud” and Andrew Holland, Rainbow, “The Flower that Blooms for a Day.”

In the middle division, A.J. Revera at Horizon took first-place honors for “Fall Fun.” Eric Lee at Mill Creek earned second place for “A New Hope”; Abby Woods, third, Liberty Middle School, “Dancer at Sunset”; and Claire Amey, honorable mention, Mill Creek, “Magic in Giving.”

For senior grades, Ramsey Griffin’s photo, “Happy Clap,” captured first place for Bob Jones High School. Also from Bob Jones, Victoria Van earned second place for “Hour of Blooming.” Sarah Swager at James Clemens High School submitted “Heaven’s Window” for third place.
