Crowns at stake in Miss Winter Wonderland Pageant

The City of Madison will sponsor the first annual Miss Winter Wonderland Pageant on Jan. 26.

The event will be held at Madison Senior Center. Contestants will check in at 1:30 p.m., followed by the pageant at 2 p.m.

“This is not your typical ‘glitz’ pageant. The girls will be judged on natural beauty, stage presence and age-appropriate attire for winter dress and winter costume,” Gayle Milam said. She works as event and volunteer coordinator for the City of Madison.

In addition, contestants will vie for photogenic kudos. Submitted photos can be color or black and white, 8 by 10 inches maximum.

Age divisions for the pageant are newborn to three years old, Little Miss Snowflake; four to six years, Miss Snowflake; seven to nine years, Little Miss Snow Princess; 10 to 12, Miss Snow Princess; and 13 to 16, Miss Winter Wonderland.

“Contestants will compete in casual wear in any outfit or costume with a winter theme. Be creative. Have fun with this,” she said.

Pageant fee is $25. Contestants competing in special categories will pay additional fees: overall best dress/costume, $10; overall best hair, $10; overall best smile, $10; and overall photogenic, $10. The discounted fee for the pageant and all special categories is $50.

“Every contestant registered will receive a small trophy,” Milam said. “The winner in each age division will receive a tiara and trophy. Runners-up, based on number of entries, will receive a trophy.”

Entry deadline is Jan. 21. Pre-registration is required.

“Proceeds will benefit the City of Madison Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund” for area youth to attend recreation programs.

Admission fees are $5, adults; children, 2 to 18 years old, $2; senior citizens, 60 and older, $2; and no charge for contestants and children younger than 2 years.

For more information, call Milam at 256-772-2557, email to gayle.milam@madisonal.gov or visit recreation links at madisonal.gov.
