Beautification board announces Yards of Madison honorees
Madison lawns are slowly bowing out to fall temperatures, but pride in ownership was evident with the recent honorees for Yards of Madison.
Coordinated by Madison Beautification and Tree Board, the Yards of Madison program recognizes exceptional yards within the city limits. “These properties complement the overall appearance and beauty of a neighborhood or other areas in Madison,” board member Rose Berry said.
Madison residents and homeowner associations can nominate a property. “The beautification board then presents certificates signed by Mayor Paul Finley and the board president to the gardeners for their hard work,” Berry said. No judging is involved.
Yards of Madison winners for September were Chandler and Laurie Sherrill, Gen. Don and Rhonda Lustig, Butch and Tina Buis, Rhonda Rodriguez, Timothy and Jacqueline Raines, Stephen and Jennifer Clardy, John and Sandra Glynn, Brian and Carolyn F. Vaughn, Chris and Bobbie Jo Backel, Matthew and Jessica Smith, Arun and Jyothi Madwesh, Anthony and Chauntel Williams, Mateen Muhammed, Bill and Donna Berger, Curt and Brook Lawson, Michael and Holly Cloud, Mark and Due Starek, Sue Vest and Melissa Kirkindall.
In July, Yards of Madison honors went to Jim and Lysa Parker, David and Karen Ivey, John and Beth Teubert, Ken and Helen Merwin, Nathan Hale, Phillip Pryor and Robert and Mary Dirmeyer.
Yards of Madison will be on hiatus until spring judging resumes in May 2013.
The City of Madison Beautification and Tree Board was established on Oct. 28, 2002 and acts in an advisory capacity to the mayor and City Council. “Its purpose is to enhance the quality of life in Madison through beautification and environmentally friendly practices,” Berry said.
The board’s officers for 2012 are president Liz Cuneo; vice president, tree board, Carol Umstaedter; vice president, beautification board Chad Hunter; secretary Julie Ray; and treasurer Sue Bish.
