Lip-smacking food, show cars and exhibits ready for Madison Street Festival
On your way to the car show, eat a funnel cake while you check out the amusements at Madison Street Festival on Oct. 6.
The MSF Car Show will feature revved-up engines, shiny chrome and mirror-like polishes, along with a 50/50 Raffle, children’s games and door prizes. Vets with Vettes and Corvette Owners will host specialty cars, trucks, motorcycles and Madison Police Department’s Corvette, chairman Ted Whitney said.
Following a ‘hometown’ theme, trophies will be awarded by choice of the mayor, police and fire chiefs, MSF Committee, participants and kids. Proceeds benefit Wounded Warriors, Toys for Tots, Corvettes Conquer Cancer and other veterans’ groups.
Like other attractions, the car show is free. “We continue to grow. Last year, we had over 100 cars participating in this worthwhile event,” Whitney said.
Adjacent to the car show, amusements, exhibits and demonstrations will include three reptile and amphibian shows by Coosa River Science School, chairman Gayle Milam said. Spectators can touch and interact with the animals.
Rolling Arsenal of Derby will demonstrate defensive moves on the rink. Unidade Capaeria will interactively demonstrate with their musical instruments. Students will present karate and taekwondo tactics. Local graffiti artist Tom Robichaux and North Alabama Woodcrafters will create original pieces.
Local entrepreneurs will hawk their products and services at information booths, organized by chairman Lisa Clayton, along with Peggy Lycans and Sharon McFalls. Churches and non-profit organizations also will attend. Spectators can learn about home decorating, health services, home repair, civic clubs, realtors, hotels and insurance agents.
What’s a festival without guilty-pleasure food? Classic fare like funnel cakes, burgers and Philly cheesesteaks, barbecue, popcorn, cotton candy, nachos and ice cream — even fried Snickers, Oreos and Twinkies — will be sold, co-chairs Christie Hall and Debbie Overcash said.
Longtime participants Optimist Club of Madison and Rainbow Mountain Homemakers will sell concessions.
Vendors include Famous Joe’s Pizzeria, The Thirsty Tiki, Curbside Grill/Summer Fun, Wilma On Wheels, Greek Flame Foods, Red Top Treats, Tennessee Kettle Corn, Cuppy’s Coffee, Nanny’s Old-Fashion Lemonade, Milltyme, Dippin’ Dots, Slow Motion BBQ, New Orleans Lunchbox, Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice, Crave Sno Cones and Little Caesar’s.
