Lions to ‘Clean the Den’ on Sept. 29

The Liberty Lions school family will complete some ‘housework’ during their “Clean the Den” day on Sept. 29.

Parents and students at Liberty Middle School will be tidying up the campus from 8 a.m. until the work is finished. Liberty PTA is sponsoring the event.

PTA officers believe the campus deserves some much needed work. They’re recruiting everyone with the slogan “Many hands make light work.”

“Our goal is to take care of some much need areas around the school,” PTA president Allyson Willis said in NotifyMe email distribution to the Liberty family. “If you are able to join us and can bring any equipment, it would be greatly appreciated.”

Clean-up jobs include sanding and repainting underneath overhang areas around the building. Volunteers will paint the bottom of light posts in ‘Liberty orange,’ the school color. On the street leading to the school, oversized, lion paws will be filled in with orange paint to honor the Liberty mascot.

Liberty’s sidewalks and brick on the building’s lower areas need cleaning with a pressure washer. On the building’s east side, workers will shovel dirt and weeds from a drainage area. The grounds of the east and west sides of the building need sod placed to fill sparse areas.

The roadside east of the building needs trimming, ‘weed-eating’ and bush hogging. Trash around the trailer must be hauled off. Near the back gate, more ‘weed eating’ is needed.

Liberty volunteers need to bring numerous tools. The PTA asks workers to label all items with their name and indicate if other volunteers can share the tools. To remove flaking paint, a handheld grinder is needed. Volunteers who paint need brushes, drop cloths and ladders.

Clean the Den needs additional equipment:

* Electric power washers and extension cords, gas power washers and gasoline, water hoses.

* Shovels, weeding claws, Weed Eaters, chain saws and sledgehammers.

* Loppers and reciprocating saw.

* Goggles and gloves.
