Police found to have used justified deadly force against Deborah Day
The Madison Police officers involved in the shooting of Deborah Day, 55, have been found to have used justified deadly force, according to the Madison Police Department.
Police shot Day when she pointed a weapon at them outside near her home on Aug. 4.
The Madison officers involved in the use of deadly force have returned to full active duty.
The Madison City Police Department received notification the Madison County Sheriff’s Department completed their investigation and forwarded the results to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Assistant District Attorney Marc Sandlin reviewed the findings and found the use of force to be justified and absent of any misconduct or violations of law. The District Attorney’s investigation is closed.
The Madison City Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards also completed an independent investigation and found that the officers acted within policy and took the appropriate action to protect themselves and others.
Members of the Madison City Police Department have received correspondents that possible civil litigation may be pending.
