Library to commemorate 9/11

Write-in participants should bring writing tools, such as papers, pens, pencils and laptops.

On the 11th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Huntsville/Madison County Public Library will host a write-in. The noontime “9/11 Write-In” is part of “Write Right,” a series of writing events at the main branch of library in Huntsville.

“Write Right” is the second Tuesday of the month, and it happened to fall on the anniversary of 9/11,” said Mary Wallace Moore, reference and adult services manager at the library. “It seemed like an opportunity to do something special.”

Write-in participants should bring writing tools, such as papers, pens, pencils and laptops. “The Library will provide refreshments, power strips and a quiet space to reflect,” said Moore. “We will also place writing prompts on each table to help get the juices flowing.”

Moore said every person is different on dealing with the tragedy. “Even though 9/11 was a world-changing event, it affected everyone individually in some way,” Moore said. “I hope this event is a chance for participants to engage in self-examination, but also honor the lives of those lost and their survivors.”

“Write Right Lunch & Learn” is a monthly professional development series for adults who are interested in writing. “The library invites speakers to discuss topics related to the craft and/or the business of writing,” said Moore.

The lunchtime writing series started in January. Upcoming topics include “Creating Compelling Characters” on Oct. 9, “Self-Publishing Electronically” on Nov. 13, “The Children’s Literature Market” on Dec. 11, and “GoodReads” on Jan. 8. Each session lasts from noon to 1 p.m.
