Residents can tour James Clemens on Aug. 26

The floors are buffed, desks are placed and the commons area is ready for conversation. Madison residents soon can tour the city’s new source of pride, James Clemens High School.

James Clemens will host a community open house on Aug. 26 at 3 p.m.

“We want the community to see what a wonderful addition to the Madison City School family James Clemens High School is,” Principal Dr. Brian Clayton said. “We are very proud and can’t wait until we have students.”

Clayton hopes the entire community will stop by to see Madison’s new high school. Visitors can tour the facility at their own pace.

“The entire school will not be finished,” Clayton said about ongoing construction. “We still have work to go in the green construction area and also the auditorium. All areas are worth seeing.”

Along with the academic ‘pods,’ the gym and field house will be open to visitors.

The school’s address is 11306 County Line Road. To reach the school from Madison Boulevard, drive north on County Line Road and continue past the intersection with Mill Road. At the next traffic light, turn west into the school property.

“Get here early,” Clayton said. “Don’t park in fire lanes and along the curbs.”

To-date, 1,100 students have enrolled at James Clemens.

Does Clayton wish that he and his staff had more time to prepare for the first day of school? “We always need more time, but we obviously will have kids on Aug. 20,” he said. “We will continue to grow with the challenges.”

James Clemens’ mission statement vows to promote students’ personal development using the CASTLE approach (courage, authenticity, service, truthfulness, love and effectiveness).

The school will encourage community service with JROTC, Peer Leaders, honor societies, theater productions, band marching competitions and concerts, vocal music, athletics and other electives.

Assistant principals are Heather Donaldson, Dr. Travis L. Schrimsher Jr. and Eric Terrell.

The James Clemens Jets will play their first football game on Aug. 31 against Johnson High School in Madison City Schools Stadium.
