ACS ‘painting county purple’

The American Cancer is turning the county purple this week.

In order to raise awareness for Relay for Life, which will be May 4, the ACS is placing purple bows on homes and businesses in the county as part of its Paint the County Purple fundraiser.

The campaign will be all this week.

With a $10 donation, you would receive a purple ribbon to hang on your business or home.

“Relay for Life is really all about fighting against cancer as a community,” said Kara Neloms, communications and marketing associate. “We really want to make people aware that it will be a family friendly and fun event we use to try and end cancer.”

Neloms said money raised would be put back into the community.

“This is a really easy way for businesses to campaign and get involved,” she said. “Everybody has so many charities they support, so this is a smaller way they can contribute to Relay.”

Community Representative Beth Haynes placed ribbons on businesses in downtown Madison.

“When you look at it, a lot of people live in Madison and work in Huntsville, or work in Huntsville and live in Madison,” Haynes said. “Even though each community is different, they’re all intertwined with one another.

ACS is holding events all week to raise awareness. The campaign will conclude Saturday with a Purple Pooch Party fundraiser.

Events:

Monday, April 23 -Huntsville Stars support Paint the County Purple by offering special $8 tickets with 50 percent of sales donated to upcoming Relay For Life events. Survivors will be honored throughout the night, throw the first pitch of the game and a special luminary ceremony will also be hosted during the event.

Friday, April 27-Huntsville and Madison locations of Gigi’s Cupcakes will feature special purple cupcakes in support of Paint the County Purple. A percentage of sales will support upcoming Relay For Life events of Madison County.

Saturday, April 28-Relay For Life events of Madison County will host a Purple Pooch Party fundraiser from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Creekwood Dog Park in Madison. Dog lovers and their owners can help raise funds for the upcoming Relay For Life events of Madison County by participating in special pooch games (best tail wag, best trick, most purple, crowd favorite, and strangest heritage) and in a special pooch luminary ceremony for a donation of $5 each. Special bandanas will also be available for a donation of $5.
