Remote-controlled aircraft take to skies April 28-29
HARVEST — The third annual Radio Control Aircraft Pylon Race will be held at the North Alabama Radio Control Association (NARCA) airfield on Carroll Road in Harvest on April 28-29.
“Pylon racing involves a skilled flight pattern around two towers about 400 feet from each other,” publicist Cliff Lanham said. “As many as five planes will be flying the pattern at the same time. The aircraft will be traveling about 60 mph in the pattern.”
In 2011, attendees participated from Georgia and Tennessee, along with Alabama fliers. Practice flights will be held during the afternoon on April 27 and in the morning on April 28, followed by main events at 10 a.m.
“Spectators and their families are admitted free and welcomed to attend,” Lanham said. Individuals who want to compete can contact Tim Batt at 256-721-0404. Membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics is required.
