Military students eligible for Space Camp scholarship
Youth in families in active military duty are eligible to apply for the Bernard Curtis Brown II Memorial Space Camp Scholarship.
Families also are eligible if a parent is mobilized in the guard or reserves or a parent has died while serving on active or mobilized duty. Students in grades 6-9 can apply.
Students must submit a hand-written essay stating reasons why he or she should be selected, evidence of patriotism, future goals and community service. Two letters of recommendation and an application also are required.
The scholarship honors Brown, an 11-year-old boy who died during the 9/11 tragedy while flying to California to represent his school at a National Geographic event.
Application deadline is March 10. For information, call a counselor at Discovery or Liberty middle school.
