BJHS college fair Jan. 19
The college fair at Bob Jones High School is returning again this year and is expected to be the biggest so far.
It will take place in the cafeteria at Bob Jones Thursday, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. and will last until 6:30 p.m.
More than 40 educational institutions including military academies and testing preparedness centers are expected to attend this year.
First-timers The Citadel, Rice University and Rhodes are also expected to appear.
“The purpose of the college fair is for students to be able to collect information about various colleges and to meet and speak with their representatives,” said College and Career Counselor Sheila Roberts.
Roberts said seniors usually apply for colleges around September. The college fair provides the opportunity to learn more about a school and helps make a decision easier for those undecided. She said some students do change their minds about the school they want to attend, so the fair comes as a great tool to help guide them in the right direction.
“Going to college is not just about picking one out of the air. It needs to be a good fit,” she said. “Some colleges are known are for their particular majors, so it’s best to choose the best fit.”
Sophomores and juniors are also invited to attend. Roberts said this helps them become familiar with the application process and the institutions.
The North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence will offer materials regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid application (FAFSA).
The BJHS Parent Scholarship Committee will also be assisting in answering questions about college admission and scholarships.
The following is a list of some of the colleges that will be represented at the fair:
Alabama, Auburn, UAB, UAH, UNA, AL A&M, South AL, MSU, Samford, GA Tech, Birmingham Southern, Troy, Judson, Huntingdon, Jacksonville State, Montevallo, Duke, NC State, Calhoun, Ole Miss, West Alabama, Sewanee, military academies
