Marlins finish first at swim meet

Madison’s swim team, the MSA Marlins, took another first place finish at the Scottsboro Swim Association’s Valley Radiology Fall Splash on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Marlins finished first in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, bringing home five High Point trophies in their respective age and gender categories.

Those five trophies belonged to Kierstin Page, age category 15-18, with an overall total of 45 points; Claire Cheatham, category 11-12, with 38 points; JoAnne Stevens, age category 9-10, with 41 points; Emma Williams, age category 8 and under, with 29 points, and Joseph Palenapa, age category 8 and under, with 25 points. Others contributing notable high points included Ethan Wan (39 pts),  Grace Forrest (30 pts), Caleb Williams (30 pts), Josh Levan (25 pts), Max Stevens (24 pts),  Lusiana Levan (21 pts), Katie Pollard (21 pts) and Jake Palenapa (20 pts).

MSA brought home many ribbons as well – first place finishes in the women’s division included Kierstin Page, who dominated the Open division with 5 wins (50 yd Freestyle, 100 yd Backstroke, 500 yd Freestyle, 200 yd Individual Medley and the 100 yd Freestyle), as well as victories by : Grace Forrest (11-12 50 yard Freestyle) ;  Emma Williams (8 & Under 25 yd Backstroke and 25 yd Butterfly);  JoAnne Stevens (10 & Under 50 yd Backstroke, 50 yd Butterfly and the 100 yd Freestyle); Claire Cheatham (11-12 50 yd Backstroke, 50 yd Butterfly and the 100 yd Individual Medley);  and Charlie Cheatham (8 & Under 25 yd Freestyle).

MSA men’s division included first place finishes for Jake Palenapa (8 and Under 25 yd Breaststroke; Ethan Wan (10 and Under 50 yd Breaststroke and 50 yd Backstroke); and  Josh Levan (11-12 100 yd Individual Medley).

Other point contributors include: Becca Beitel, Meenu Booshanan, Connor Black, Hannah Blades, Quinn Burgess, Megan Davies, Chase Dowling, Charles Hoang, Hope Lanier, Grace Loggins, Heather McAdams, Lauren McAdams, Connor McAfee, Sabrina Morgavi, Brittany Nunez, Grace Palenapa, Mark Patterson, Andrew Pokemire, Katie Pollard, Ben Runyan, Brad Sheeler, Micah Shelton, Nathan Shelton, Sarah Shirley, Haylee Smith, Benjamin Taylor, Cuong VO, Tan Vo, Rebekah Wieczorek, and Caleb Williams.

The Marlins next meet will be at the Huntsville Natatorium October 28-30, in preparation for their home meet, held at Dublin Park Indoor Pool, November 11-13.
