West Highlands flags honor 9/11

One neighborhood in west Madison is hanging flags from mailboxes to honor and remember the tragic events that hit the nation 10 years ago this week.

More than 180 homes in the West Highlands neighborhood off of Balch Road will the have American flags displayed two weeks.

“The board of our association simply wanted to do something as a neighborhood to show our remembrance, respect and thanks for any and all who are or were involved in the 9/11 tragedy, and the security efforts since then,” said Robin Entrekin, president of the West Highland Neighborhood Association. “I am hopeful (as a member of the board of the Madison Homeowner’s Association Network (MHOAN)) that our idea will catch on with other neighborhoods & subdivisions in Madison, Huntsville and the surrounding areas.”

Entrekin said 17 active and retired military families live in the neighborhood, along with two families who are associated with the Madison Fire and Rescue.

Entrekin said his goal is to one day have all neighborhoods in Madison participate in the remembrance.

Got give streets need to cover. It’s a nice thing our neighborhood can do. Put with people putting flags out, gives everyone the opportunity. People that move into the neighborhood alike and appreciate it.
