Police detail hit-and-run suspect capture
Police found Pamela Sanders, the woman charged with the hit-and-run death of 20-year-old Rebecca Carter in less than 24 hours.
The investigation team pieced together headlight parts found at the scene and were able to determine Sanders’ exact vehicle type.
Lt. Terrell Cook said the team then contacted various dealerships in the area and they were able to match the parts to a Kia, the type of car Sanders drove. The dealership said the type of car that matched that part was a 2011 or 2012 model year.
Cook said that piece of information narrowed the search down from a white, medium-sized S.U.V.
“We came across the vehicle pretty early on in the search,” he said.
After locating Sanders’ residence, officers located the vehicle, which was at a car shop in the process of being repaired.
Cook thanked the public for being responsive with the request for assistance in locating the suspect vehicle.
“I often hear that the best of times are long gone, but assure you that’s not case,” said Police Chief Larry Muncey. “Watching our team of officers work around the clock with unmatched tenacity, dedication and empathy, it’s clearly evident to me that the best of times are yet to come.”
Cook thanked the Madison Police traffic safety unit, along with the Huntsville Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s department for assisting in the initial search for the vehicle.
Cook said the investigation is not over
“We will remain dedicated to seeking justice for the victim and for the victim’s family,” he said.
