First wall of new Target goes up

Tenants that have executed leases include Pie in the Sky, Fulin’s, Dollar Tree, Kinnucan’s Outdoors, Great Clips, Rack Room, AT&T, Maurice’s, Petco, Sunset Tanz, Tiffany Nail Spa, Which Wich, and Zen Berry.

The first wall of the new Target store went up Tuesday with the help of Madison Mayor Paul Finley.

Officials from Target even flew in from Minnesota for the ceremony.

Sarah Van Nevel, spokesperson for Target, said the new store in Madison is the corporation’s latest prototype.

“This Target will have reinvented departments, including home electronics, beauty and shoes, as well as fresh groceries such as fruits, veggies, bakery goods and meat,” she said.

Van Nevel also noted the new store will have interior finishes and wider aisles.

She said the 135,000 square-foot building would bring in around 200 new jobs.

“We are very pleased with the pre-leasing activity,” stated Fraser Schaufele, V.P. of Leasing for GBT. “This speaks highly of the city of Madison and the strength of the local consumer.”

The Shoppes of Madison is comprised of 28 acres located at US Highway 72 near Wall Triana Highway and is scheduled to open in March 2012 with Target as the anchor tenant.

“The success of the pre-leasing for this center is exactly what we were hoping for,” added Ford Tomlin, leasing associate for GBT. “This demonstrates that with the right location and tenant, the retailer market is very much alive and active.”
