Madison Hospital on Wright path

Madison Hospital’s President Mary Lynne Wright hopes that the decision to build a new hospital in Madison benefits not only the city, but also the residents of Madison.

“My hopes for the new hospital are that we can meet the needs of this community and that the community we will support embraces this hospital, which they really have already done,” Wright said.

Wright is from Huntsville and moved to Madison shortly after her marriage in 1989.

Wright attended Samford University and graduated with an associate’s degree in nursing in 1977. She went to Athens State University and received a bachelor’s degree in business in 1988.

Wright earned her master’s degree in management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1991.

Wright started to work as a registered nurse in 1977 at Huntsville Hospital.

Wright worked in many different positions with the hospital, including Vice President of Surgical Services.

Wright’s said her favorite part of being the president of a hospital is interacting with the public and providing services to the community.

Wright said her biggest challenge is to meet everyone’s needs.

Wright said she is hoping that the community will appreciate the new hospital in Madison, though it will not offer some of the services that a larger hospital does.

“With building the Madison Hospital, while we want to be everything that everybody wants us to be, we are not going to be able to do that,” Wright said.

Wright said that the hospital will add a missing health care element to Madison.

“We wanted to be a part of that community and we knew the next step was to build the hospital and in doing so, we think we are solidly a part of the Madison community,” Wright said.

When the stress of the job gets to be too much for Wright, she can be found outside working in her garden.

“I like being able to see the fruit of my labor as far as everything I put into it,” Wright said. “I am rewarded in the beauty of the flowers and the plants and it brings me back to my family because that is part of what we do and my mother and my grandmother were both avid gardeners.”

Wright has two daughters with her husband, Merrill Wright.

Wright said her time spent with her family is very important.

“We have been very active in supporting volleyball at Bob Jones High School and have enjoyed being very involved because it is all about your children and being supportive of them,” Wright said.
